2014 Advanced Course & Exam Schedule

A NEW STRUCTURE FOR 2014

In order to give candidates the greatest chance of success in our examinations, the CMS is excited to announce structural changes to the Advanced Course and Advanced Examination beginning in 2014. Please read thoroughly.

 

The Advanced Course and Advanced Examination have been divided into separate programs to allow for:

  •         Focus on learning without the pressure of an examination
  •         A period for candidates to assimilate the information and prepare for the examination

 

2014 Advanced Course

  • A three day program which will explore the CMS standards in sales and service in depth
  • CMS will offer ONE Advanced Course each year
  • Application for the Advanced Course is seperate from application for the Advanced Exam
  • Application details are outlined on the following pages
 
Note: Five (5) year minimum experience in the service industry required for the Advanced Course and Advanced Exam

2014  Advanced Examinations

  • CMS will offer THREE Advanced Examinations in 2014
  • Application for the Advanced Exam is seperate from application for the Advanced Course
  •  Application details are outlined on the following pages

 ADVANCED COURSE

Course Date:     February 6-8, 2014 at The Palomar Hotel in Dallas, TX

                          May 28-30, 2014 at Westin Diplomat Resort in Hollywood, FL

 
* Advanced Courses for 2014 are full, no additional applications are being accepted
* Please check back in late September or October for the posting of the 2015 applications

Cost:        $795 / Candidate for Course

Attendance:

·         Required for anyone who

o   Did NOT attend the Advanced Sommelier Course/Examination in 2012 or 2013

AND

o   Wants to sit for the Advanced Examination in 2014

·         Optional for anyone who

o   Attended the Advanced Sommelier Course/Examination in 2012 or 2013

AND

o   Wants to sit for the Advanced Examination in 2014

·         Optional for anyone who

o   Wants to take the education Advanced Course ONLY and NOT sit for the Advanced Examination in 2014

o   Space is limited; priority seating goes to those sitting the examination

** Successful completion of the Certified Sommelier Exam is mandatory

 

Application Guidelines:

  • Candidates must indicate whether or not they intend to sit the Advanced Examination in 2014 on the Advanced Course application
  • Candidate application for the Advanced Course must be submitted by November 8, 2013
  • A formal invitation OR waitlist status will be extended to the candidate by November 15, 2013
  • Candidates placed on a waitlist will be notified of a seat opening as soon as possible
  • Confirmation to attend the Advanced Course requires full payment by December 15, 2013 
  • Once payment is made, there is NO REFUND unless you have a medical issue confirmed by a physician’s note
  • Application for the Advanced Examination must be submitted by November 8, 2013 (see next page)
  • Participation in the Advanced Course qualifies a candidate to sit the Advanced Examination for the next three years
  • Candidates must attend the Advanced Course every 3 years to qualify for the Advanced Examination
  • Candidates can sit the Advanced Examination only once in a calendar year

Seating Priority:

·         Priority seating will be given to those who have sat the Advanced Course/Examination in 2012 or 2013.

·         The remainder of available seats will be assigned based on qualifications such as restaurant experience and Certified Examination performance.

 

Application for the 2014 Advanced Course is Closed

ADVANCED EXAMINATION   

Examination Dates:  

April 21-23, 2014 at Hotel Monaco in Portland, OR

July 1-3, 2014 at the Four Seasons Resort in Irving, TX          

September 2-4, 2014 at the Hotel Monaco in Philadelphia, PA

* Advanced Exams for 2014 are full, no additional applications are being accepted
* Please check back in late September or October for the posting of the 2015 applications

Cost:        $795 / Candidate for Advanced Exam

 

Application Guidelines:

  •  All Candidates must indicate whether they intend to sit the Advanced Examination in 2014 at the time of their application to the Advanced Course.
  • Application for the Advanced Examination must be submitted by November 8, 2013.
  • A formal invitation OR waitlist status will be extended by November 15, 2013.
  • Candidate confirmation to attend requires full payment by February 1, 2014 for ALL Advanced Examinations.
  • Once payment is made, there is NO REFUND unless you have a medical issue confirmed by a physician’s note.
  • Candidates may request their Advanced Examination venue city at the time of application.
  • The CMS will do its utmost to place you at your first choice of venue city, but reserves the right to assign a Candidate to any of the three.
  • Priority is weighted on geography of candidate, but not guaranteed.

·         Priority is weighted to those who have sat the Advanced Course/Examination in the past three years. Beyond that, other qualifications such as Master Sommelier recommendations, restaurant experience and Certified Examination performance are weighted

·         If you are placed on a waitlist, you will be notified of a seat opening as soon as is possible. Priority is weighted as described above.

      Those candidates who have applied or are applying for the 2014 Advanced Course who also want to take the Advanced Exam in 2014 should submit an application for the Advanced Exam NOW.
