W. Scott Harper, MS, CWE
To say that Scott Harper is a wine aficionado would be an understatement - the man lives and breathes for the fruit of the vine.

Scott Harper’s love of wine began before he was legally old enough to enjoy a glass. As a teenager, he worked at a restaurant with a wine list that was written entirely in Italian. The mystic of those foreign words piqued Scott’s curiosity and soon he was busy pouring over his first book on wine. Scott immersed himself in the subject – learning the history and the geography of wine, the science behind wine and wine-making, and most importantly, he learned the language of wine.

Scott began working for the Bristol Bar and Grille in 1991, where he now wears several hats. He is a managing partner, the general manager of the Jeffersonville, Indiana location, and the corporate wine and beverage director, overseeing the award-winning wine programs for all five Bristol locations, four of which are located in Louisville, Kentucky.

After earning the title of Certified Wine Educator (CWE), the highest level of recognition from the Society of Wine Educators, Scott continued to build on his academic knowledge and sensory capabilities while pursuing the title of Master Sommelier. Scott passed the Master Sommelier Diploma Exam in July 2009.

Scott teaches wine courses through the continuing education program at Bellarmine University and also writes for Sophisticated Living Louisville and Food and Dining Louisville. He is a member of the Society of Wine Educators and is licensed through the French Wine Society to teach the curriculum of the French Wine Academy. Scott is a recipient of the Banfi Award, given to the individual who passes the CWE examination on the first sitting, and with the highest score. In 2008, he was selected by the Court of Master Sommeliers to participate in the Mariani Wine Enrichment program in Italy. At home, Scott likes to relax by spending time with his wife and three Golden Retrievers.
