Master Sommeliers were invited to Oregon’s Willamette Valley for a multi-day program hosted by the Willamette Valley Winery Association and the Oregon Wine Board. The gathering featured immersive vineyard visits, technical tastings, and focused panel discussions, all designed to highlight the region’s dynamic terroir.
Day 1 began with an artisan lunch at Olympia Provisions and a warm welcome at Rex Hill. The highlight was a “What’s New and Vintage” Pinot Noir panel, featuring top producers pouring current releases and library selections, followed by a pre-dinner tasting at Ponzi Vineyards.
Day 2 explored the valley’s heart, starting with a soil pit deep-dive at Les Stephens (Rose & Arrow) that revealed how terroir shapes wine expression. This was followed by the Taste the Place program at NW Wine Co., a Chehalem Mountain Neighborhoods Tasting, and a crisp White Wine Panel & Walk-Around at Alexana. The Chehalem Mountains Neighborhoods Project engaged Master Sommeliers in critical research on soil and elevation’s role in wine character. The day closed with a varietal-focused tasting at Stoller Family Estate.
Day 3 culminated with a Sparkling Wine Panel and Tasting at Argyle, offering a fitting and celebratory close.
We extend our sincere thanks to the Willamette Valley Winery Association and the Oregon Wine Board for their exceptional hospitality!
