Jay Fletcher is the Beverage Director at Matsuhisa Aspen in Aspen Colorado. He oversees an extensive beverage program consisting of fine wines, top shelf sake, and luxury spirits. Previously he worked for Southern Glazers Wine and Spirits of Colorado for almost 20 years as their Director of Fine Wine and was awarded their Lifetime Achievement Award.
Jay is a master level examiner and lecturer for the Court of Master Sommeliers, Americas as well as Chairman Emeritus for their board of directors. Jay is one of the founding members of the nonprofit SommFoundation as well as the Cellar Master for their extensive wine collection. Mr. Fletcher is an accredited Bordeaux Educator from the L’Ecole du Vin in Bordeaux, as well as being a Commandeur d’Honneur from the Commanderie du Bontemps.
Jay has worked in different aspects of the restaurant and wine industry for most of his life and has a solid practical knowledge of the operation and management systems involved with running a successful restaurants, wine programs, and wholesale beverage operations. In the fall of 1996 Jay passed the prestigious Master Sommelier Exam in London, England, and became the 30th American to hold the title of Master Sommelier. Jay has lectured and sat on panels at hundreds of wine events, courses and examinations around the country including Disney’s Epcot Food and Wine Festival, Aspen Food and Wine Classic, Kapalua Wine Festival, Chicago Gourmet and Crystal Cruises Wine Tours and was featured in the movie SOMM.
He lives in Aspen, Colorado with his wife, Lynn, and their dog Buckwheat.
